The Special Custom Fabrication Touch in Greg Weld's 1940 Ford
Gears Wheels and Motors recently made and shared this gorgeous video of Greg Weld's finished 1940 Ford pickup truck and it made us reminisce on all the work we put into this beauty of a vehicle -- including a bunch of custom fabrication to transform what was a rusted classic into a one-of-a-kind custom hot rod.
The Story of CHRA and Greg Weld's 1940 Ford
Greg Weld was up in Victoria, Canada's Deuce Days when he saw a dream '40 Ford come up from a Colorado group of hot rodders. It scratched a special type of itch for a classic truck that could handle the rigors of both daily driving and open road tours. Thus, Weld quickly went on the hunt for his own version of the model, which he found in a Wyoming backyard. With a rough plan in mind, Weld bought the truck and a few spare parts he mustered together and brought them to our Customs & Hot Rods of Andice shop.
Custom Fabrication and Detailing
A lot of thought and work has been put into this truck, but arguably the best of our custom fabrication work can be found in the bed. First off, the bed itself was extended forward an inch to close up the gap between it and the cab and then a custom, one-of-a-kind storage box was fabricated to specially fit neatly behind the cab. The box is mobile but secured with leather straps to allow Weld to easily pack up and take out all of his favorite road tripping gear.
The truck bed's rear end also received a lot of detailed attention. Here, Weld was specific in wanting something simple yet stylish, something that wasn't big and bulky but rather flowed with the overall sleek and ultimately ponton appearance of the truck. The end result was a T-Bird-styled center bumperette with a custom fabricated rear roll pan offset by '39 Chevy taillights.
Naturally, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the work done on Greg's gorgeous '40 Ford. The pickup truck also saw a new engine, new engine bay, new chassis, new interior, and so much more. You can see some of the more detailed images of these changes and more via our Facebook page.
Greg's fresh and custom '40 Ford was finished up in August of last, which was just in time to debut it at the 2018 Goodguys Hall of Fame Road Tour in September. Shop owners Harold and Tracy Chapman likewise took part in the fun, driving their '56 Hard Top Chevy and friends and clients Jee and Janeen Drinkards drove their '40 Chevy Sedan. The Hall of Fame Tour is a fantastic ride, this past one traversing nearly three thousand miles across eight full days and some of the best country the United States has to offer. It's definitely a trip we recommend all lovers of classic cars and hot rods to partake of at least once.
