Hot Rod Showdown: A Hot Rods & Custom Cars of Texas Event & Car HIghlight
At the end of last month, the multifaceted and multitalented Michael Kaiser, shop foreman here at Customs & Hot Rods of Andice, took this gorgeous 1935 Ford Cabriolet over to Wimberly's Hot Rod Showdown. It was an exciting event full of stellar classic cars and one in which we were excited to take part.
The Hot Rod Showdown
The organizers of this event were adamant about authenticity and were looking for a very specific type of vehicle. The entries were limited to 100 cars and yes, they did sell out the week of the event. Registration required a picture of your vehicle, which had to be built pre-'48 and traditionally restored.
The event itself took place in a pioneer town just a few miles outside of the city limits of Wimberly (which, in and of itself, is a rather small Texas town). The site is built with an authentic-looking 1890s backdrop complete with opera house, log cabins, and bottle house. It was the perfect place to show off a beauty like this '35 Cabriolet with its SCoT blown Flathead! You can check out more of the different classic hot rods and custom cars Texas that showed up to the event at this official hotrodshowdown Instagram page.
A Look at the '35 Cabriolet
The 1935 Ford Cabriolet is certainly a special type of vehicle that is historically notable for being one of the most expensive and lowest-production models the populous-oriented Ford brand made in this era. Each vehicle cost $625, which was roughly half of the average annual salary at the time. Yet, still, it sold and sold fast.
From the moment of its release, the model was a favorite for hot rodders thanks to its 221-cubic-inch V8 engine that offered a smooth and exciting 85 horsepower. Options for the model included a radio, cigar lighter, heater, clock, whitewall tires, and the specialized Greyhound radiator ornament.

Naturally, the '35 Cabriolet is only one of the many hot rods of the early '30s that our team has had the pleasure of working on. Another one we love that's in the garage is Bitter Sweet, a 1933 Roadster that put us on the map after a series of car shows in 2013. Also a convertible, and also restored and refurbished to go fast with finesse. Or for a more unique and out-of-the-box hot rod, there's this '33 Willys Gasser that's almost ready to go with the perfect finishing paint touch.
In other words, we love the '30s era automobiles and if you have a hot rod or classic car from this era that needs a bit of restoration work and personalization, then our team is equipped for the job.
